Spice Tea Jar Mix
hot spiced cider

Here’s one of my hubby’s favorite fall/winter beverages. He asks me to make this mix so he can keep some at work to make whenever he wants.  I also had a request for this recipe from an old friend Pam.  The recipe is easy to make and can be stored in a pretty canning jar, or given as a gift.  Mix it with hot water to make Hot Spiced Tea, or mix it with hot apple cider for a tangy sweet fruity drink.  And I know some folks who also prefer the hot cider with a splash of rum to spice up the holidays. Anyway – make it however you want it.  Just know you have options!

2 cups Tang or instant orange drink mix

1 package unsweetened Kool-Aid lemonade mix

1/2 cup instant iced tea mix (I used Decaf)

2 cups sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon cloves

Combine ingredients in a large bowl.  Mix well then place tea mix in an airtight container until ready to use.  The mix yields 4 cups and will fit into a quart canning jar, which also makes a pretty way to package the mix and give as a gift.

To make 1 cup of Hot Spiced Tea – add 1 Tablespoon of mix to 1 cup hot water.  You can add more or less mix to suit your taste.

To make Hot Spiced Cider – add 2/3 cup mix to 1/2 gallon hot apple cider. Stir to dissolve.

  1. […] Hot apple cider is a so reminiscent of the cooler months. Of course, it tastes better in a canning jar! You can find the recipe here: Hot Spiced Apple Cider. […]

So glad you posted this! I have been waiting for this a long time. I think you made this at your house one time. I believe we had a ladies bible devotion a long time ago when you went to Highland Heights church. I remember I loved it!! Can’t wait to make this, I might just make it for Christmas day!

Glad you like it Pam. I’m not sure if this is the exact recipe I made back then, but Richard really enjoys it.

Where in the world did you find Tang? It’s not to be found…in fact, store managers act as though they’ve never heard of it here in SC. I think I even tried to find it online to order. I had an intriguing recipe I wanted to try using Tang and I think I finally threw it away because I thought it had disappeared.

    HI Jan,

Here in Middle TN Kroger, Publix, Walmart and an independent grocery store all carry Tang. I believe it was originally deisgned as an instant drink for astronauts to carry into space. I usually find it either near the Kool-aid drink mixes or near the breakfast mixes like Ovaltine or even Nestle Quick chocolate milk mix. I think our Kroger even has a store brand labeled “instant breakfast drink”. Hope you find some!

    Hi there!
    This recipe looks so good!
I was just wondering about the instant tea: is it the instant iced tea mix (Lipton or whatever brand)? I can’t seem to find anything else.
    Thank you!
