Old Fashioned “Stolen” Peanut Butter Fudge

peanut butter fudge

This is my Aunt Patricia’s Peanut Butter Fudge recipe.  She has made uncountable pounds of this fudge for various family gatherings over the years.  At our last gathering, someone actually STOLE this fudge and hid it for their own selfish consumption!  You know you’ve got a notable recipe when folks let loose of all their morals and STEAL your fudge.  You’ve got to make this soon, but be careful what type of people you associate with when serving it.

  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup whole, or evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup white corn syrup
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups peanut butter, creamy
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix sugar, milk, syrup, butter and salt together in a large saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add peanut butter. Return pan to heat and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. and add vanilla; beat until slightly stiff. Pour onto butter platter. Let set a couple of hours and cut into squares.

I am going to try this. I always make fudge and this would be a great addition to the normal chocolate variety.

Hope she likes it. There’s nothing better than old fashioned fudge. I’m not crazy about the marshmallow kind either.

LIKE I SAID WONDERFUL. HOWEVER MY MOTHER-IN-LAW SAID IT NEEDS CHOCOLATE. ANY IDEAS?

  12. cindyon 21 Nov 2011 at 6:22 pm 12

I have made many batches of this fudge. Any ideas on how to add chocolate?

  13. Taraon 21 Nov 2011 at 6:49 pm 13

I was thinking the same thing today Cindy! If you want chocolate peanut butter fudge, I would try adding a cup of cocoa with the sugar when the sugar gets added. I want to try to make it without peanut butter too and will let you know how that turns out.

What size pan and how much does it make? I am thinking of adding this to my cookie trays this year.

  15. Taraon 15 Dec 2011 at 3:17 pm 15

Linda it should fit into a 9×13 glass dish nicely. You can cut your squares as large or as small as you like. I think a 9×13 pan would yield 12 1″cuts lengthwise and 8 1″ cuts widthwise which is approximately 96 1″ squares. If I recall correctly the ones in the photo were a little larger though. Good luck with the fudge.

So glad I found this recipe, its VERY similar to what my grandma made ( but your recipe has actual measurements unlike when she makes it lol!) Can’t wait to make this tomorrow!

    Tara,

Did you try this fudge with just the cocoa and how did it turn out?

  19. Taraon 21 Nov 2012 at 7:58 pm 19

Shannon I have not had the chance yet to add the cocoa but I’m pretty sure 1/2 a cup of cocoa would make it tasty.

I put in 2 heaping tablespoons of coco and was really good i used toll house

I tried this using reduced fat Jif and it didn’t turn out so well. The taste is great but the appearance is dried out and it crumbles when you cut it. Next time I will use regular full fat peanut butter. Some things you just can’t skimp on the calories.
